Sewing Machines = Easter Baskets

Hippity, hoppity, Easter’s on its way – Bringin’ ev’ry girl and boy –
A basketful of Easter joy!
And – lucky me – my Easter basket has already arrived and takes the unique shape of an antique Singer Featherweight sewing machine!
The best Easter basket!
Beats chocolate any day!
It’s quite the story about how my Easter basket came to be and it really goes back to my dad’s mom, my Nana’s, love of bargain hunting.
My Nana was a notorious deal finder and had a house full of amazing treasures to prove it. This love was passed on to my dad. He has hence instilled it in my mom and I – plum skipping over my brother, who has the fond family nickname of “Top-shelf Tommy” because of his high-end taste and dislike of bargain shops.

Well the bargain-hunting Gods were smiling down on my dad Saturday night for, while browsing on Ebay, he came across a steal-of-a-deal on an antique Singer! After a quick call to me to confirm its quality and my desire for the machine, he bid and… he won! Even better, the seller of the machine was in Portland so they were able to even avoid shipment fees and pick up the beautiful sewing machine/Easter basket in person. What a present for my Easter basket this year!
Well, what they did next is equivalent to putting a big, grand bow on my Easter basket – they took it Modern Domestic for a tune-up and a polish!
On Monday afternoon, my parents called me from the store and told me of this surprise. And, also, in more than a few words, they raved about how much Modern Domestic exudes happiness and creativity! Well, looking online I can see why they would say so – the bright colors on the wall, the big table top work spaces and roaming experts/staff! It looks like an amateur crafters dream! I can already tell that Modern Domestic will be another store that makes me wish I lived in Portland instead of Seattle (i.e. SCRAP – see my posting about it here).
So, when I return home Easter weekend to visit my family and retrieve my “Easter basket” I’m definitely planning to swing by Modern Domestic – maybe even take one of their many classes if I have the time!
Modern Domestic: a crafter girls best friend!
