Baking

Pear and Chocolate Muffones

This holiday season my craftiness has really been occurring in my kitchen. And, boy have I been busy… But, I mean that’s what happens when someone on your Christmas list only asks for cookies!

In addition to cookie baking I’ve been challenging myself with the task of creatively using 12 delicious Harry & David pears that Michael and I were gifted. Pear salad? Check! Poached pears in brown sugar? Check! Chocolate and Pear Muffones??? CHECK!

Pear and Chocolate Muffones

That’s right, a muffone: part muffin, part scone. Discovered today when attempting to make Smitten Kitchen’s scones but failing miserably. I’m not quite sure what I did wrong when making her scones, but clearly something because the dough didn’t congeal in the way scone dough does – thick, dry and dense. Instead my dough was gooey and sticky.

So, rather than throw the dough away I thought.. “Hmmm, I wonder what will happen if I put the scone dough in a muffin tin?” And with that, ta-da – the muffone was born!

We’ll see what my sweet-tooth fiance, Michael, has to say about them when he gets home. I’m guessing their edible but not something I’ll be attempting to recreate again.

Oh well, not every recipe can be WORLD’s best! (like these chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies).

Wishing you all a ho! ho! ho! yum! holiday season!
